Just a few of our volunteers

ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE:

Bay Area German Shepherd Dog Rescue has been serving Northern California since 2013. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit supported by a dedicated team of volunteers with many years of experience owning, training, evaluating and living with German Shepherds. We may be a small rescue however our love and compassion for the breed is boundless.

The Bay Area German Shepherd Dog Rescue team rescues German Shepherd Dogs, Belgian Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, GSD blends, with some occasional imposters!

The dogs in our program come from shelters or from owners that can no longer care for their dog.  We select dogs primarily based on their stability and adaptability to become loving members of a family. The dogs in our program range from puppies to seniors, including hospice dogs who need some tender loving care at the last stage of their life.

We feel honored to have saved over two thousand dogs and we will continue to save this noble breed as long as there is a need. You can help us by becoming a foster and opening your heart and home to a dog that temporarily needs a safe place to land. Who knows, you may even fall in love.

WHAT WE DO:

We save dogs! Each dog that comes into our program is carefully evaluated, vetted, and placed into a foster home. If a foster home is not available when the need arises, we may temporarily board a dog at one of our approved facilities. We would never ‘warehouse’ our dogs.

When you apply to adopt one of our dogs, you will go through our adoption process where we learn more about you, your experience and your lifestyle. Once you have been approved, we help you find the perfect match. Once a match is found, you meet what we hope is your new best friend. If you fall in love, you adopt your dog and start your journey. It is not as easy as going to a shelter and adopting on the spot (which is ok of course). We understand it can take time and you are excited to adopt a dog but please bear with us as we are committed to finding the right dog for you so they never face abandonment again.

YOU CAN HELP!

There are many ways to help and every single one of them is important.

Fosters allow us to learn more about a dog prior to placing the dog in an appropriate home. Fostering a dog saves lives and allows another shelter or displaced dog to get a second chance.

Donors provide the much needed funding for the Rescue to thrive. ALL donations go directly to caring for the dogs; we have no paid personnel. Every donation, large or small, allows us to continue to save these wonderful dogs.

Volunteers keep us moving forward.  We are always looking for like-minded people that want to help. There are many ways to volunteer and we do our best to find our volunteers ‘jobs’ that are rewarding and empowering.
