Kaja is thrilled to be sponsored by Phillip Parr - thanks Phillip, WOOF WOOF!

Kaja is a female German Shepherd who arrived at the shelter with a severe laceration on her front leg. X-rays revealed the tip of her ulna was sheared off. She underwent surgery on Feb. 17th and returned to the vet 5 days later to replace some of the stitches. Almost 3 weeks went by during which part of the wound near her elbow never closed. Upon arriving in rescue our vet performed a 3rd surgery which reduced the size of the opening but due to the difficult location the surgery did not full close it. In time the entire wound will close on its own.

In spite of all the physical trauma she has endured Kaja is a happy and affectionate dog. She gets along great with her foster brother and has done well meeting 2 small dogs. She meets big people with a big tail wag and little people get kisses on their face.

We estimate Kaja is about 5 years old. She is an averaged sized dog who weighs about 65 pounds. Its obvious that she is used to living in a house. She arrived at her foster home already knowing how to use a dog door and is apparently used to being on the furniture (we are working on that). She sleeps free on a dog bed throughout the night without needing to go outside.

Is Kaja good with dogs?  Yes!

Kaja is a very easy-going dog who will fit right in to many types of living situations. When her foster mom is at work she is left alone with her foster brother for up to 10 hours a day (with access to the house and yard). She lets herself out as needed but appears to spend much of the day indoors. Kaja isn’t excited about car rides but she can easily jump into the back of a pickup truck and rides quietly. She does fine on leash walks. Kaja is still lame in her front leg but since arriving in rescue her mobility has greatly improved. She gets around fine and will run short distances to play with her foster brother.
