In the horse world, Bergen was ridden hard and put away wet.  He's had a ruff life, but he has another chance.  And from the looks of it, he's loving life grand.

Bergen was named "Killer" in his previous life.  His name couldn't be further from the truth in regards to his personality, disposition and behavior.  He is a big, long coat pile of mush.  Heads turn when he's in public; he makes a huge statement.

Bergen is very easy going, loves people and is a great hang out dog.  He is quiet in the yard, has great house manners and sleeps quietly in his crate at night.

Being an older gentleman, we're not surprised that he has arthritis in his hips; he does not need anti-inflammatories, but we expect he will need them in the coming years.  His hips would only affect him if someone were to require lots of exercise.  He will do just fine taking leisurely walks in his new neighborhood and on easy hikes.

Bergen is such a sweet boy.  His age and minor medical issues might cause someone to overlook him, but he will be the best companion.  We can see him going to an older or infirm person, although he would like daily walks to keep him alert and happy.

Bergen does nicely with all the dogs he's being fostered with.  He is reactive to small dogs when he is on leash.  When Bergen met Test Kitty, it went very well.  Bergen sniffed Kitty and then walked away.  We put kitty on the floor to walk away, and Bergen simply watched kitty leave the room.

If you have a love of older, or 'mature' dogs, please consider Bergen.  He's very special.

Bergen is in the east bay and is a level 2 boy.

*** update 7//4/14 - Bergen suffered a severely broken leg.  He is on complete crate rest for ten weeks.  He will be allowed more freedom as he heals, but not until then.  If you have room in your heart to foster Bergen during his recuperation, (and fall in love with him), please let us know. :)
