Maximo comes to us as an owner surrender due to the illness of the owner. Maximo is a beautiful example of his breed and he has a real fondness for people.
He has been raised as an outdoor dog and unfortunately he has developed the habit of barking at dogs outside of the fence. This has made him wary of other dogs and he has become reactive to them. He is better with some dogs, particularly females, once he has met them. Very careful introductions are important. He is not an appropriate dog for dog parks and his new adopter will have to work with him on managing this behavior. A pre-adoption consultation is required to discuss strategies for managing and modifying this behavior.
Maximo's previous guardian stated he slept in a crate at night so this will be a big help in getting him used to being an indoor dog.
Maximo has tremendous potential and with training and leadership he should blossom into to a great lifelong companion.
