This is a courtesy post for Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez. CCAS is currently at capacity for dogs and rabbits and they need YOUR help to find homes for the animals. If you have been thinking about adopting, there's no better time than now. You can also follow his stream at PetHarbor.

Guinness is being generously sponsored by Jill Baker! Thank you!!!!!

Hey they call me Old Man Guinness and I have been  at the shelter since July. That is a very long time for an old boy like myself. These old bones need a bed!

My friends from BAGSR say I am  a big handsome classic looking boy with a magnificent big blocky head. I am a talker. I will give off my "hey I'm looking at YOU" attention bark when we pass other dogs. Not the lunge and I want to kill you bark, but I will let them know I'm out there - you know the one.

It's the baritone WOOF.....W O O F......   W  O  O  F  then I'm done.

I am a senior now and I walk like an old guy who still has some spring in my step. They say I have definite weakness and that I may wobble like a drunk and one front leg feels pretty stiff too. I have  legs like tree trunks- a big boned boy.  My coat is very full but I need some good nutrition. My  teeth look like I  have not been well acquainted with the dentist.  Don't let all of that scare you because the important things are that I LOVE people. I love to snuggle up and I smile too! I am playful and will have so much fun playing ball or hanging around in the garden with you. I can go for walks and I love to do that. Nothing like a well loved old Shepherd to make your holidays complete!

Here is what my friends from BAGSR want you to know:

Structurally Guinness has some challenges BUT his temperament is wonderful. He loves to be rubbed all over or sit in your lap. He will gallop over in his drunken dance to be with you and happily run behind if you jog while calling him. He loves the ball and will show you where they are kept. He's HAPPY. Guinness is a happy, affectionate, companion boy.  One of the volunteers took him to Pet Food Express for a bath and except for letting out his big Woof he was great. He is well loved by shelter staff and rescue partners alike. Everyone is rooting for Guinness!

Guinness is not great with other dogs. He seems to do ok with females but he's not a dog that will accept a new pack without some help from knowledgeable humans. He's been in the shelter for a long time so maybe with some patience he can learn to live peacefully with other dogs. What he really would love is a human to hang out with!

Guinness is the dog we all remember growing up - the big, classic GSD who would pull drowning kids from rushing rivers. He presents a big masculine, German Shepherd presence while being all big, brave German Shepherd heart. We are all giving a shout out on his behalf in case the person who can't tune it out hears and is the place for an old lion boy like Guinness. He is currently at Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez.
