German Shepherd Dog, male, 3 years old

UPDATE: During his evalutation, King was nervous. He was fine being handled, and allowed us to give him a good brushing. King likes the company of people, but it may take some time and TLC for him to feel comfortable. Here's an observation from one of our grrreat volunteers about King and Kelly: "Love them! They are so smitten with one another. When I walked by the play yard with King - sweet Kelly went from shy and timid to super excited and happy. King kept stopping every few feet to look back at her! I believe they are very bonded."

Stunning King came to the shelter with a female friend -- Kelly. King was shy and nervous when we began his temperament test, but after being around the new smells and people, he seemed to relax and become more comfortable. In his former home, he lived with other dogs, but when he met our female tester dog, Pam, King gave a little lip curl. As his evaluation continued, King became more comfortable around Pam. King is also shy around new people--though it's obvious he wants to interact, and likes to place himself by one's side. King enjoys attention, and we suspect that in a home environment, his behavior will change from what we're seeing at the shelter, and he will be less shy. King sniffed the cats in the shelter lobby and walked away with no interest in them--though that does not guarantee he will be OK in a home with cats. As we get to know him better, we'll be able to judge whether King should be the only dog in his new home. However, we ALWAYS ask that our guests meet any potential roommates before being adopted. Check this space for updates and photos.
