Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue

Copper was at our Adoption Event yesterday in Santa Rosa.  She was charming the crowds by offering kisses for dollars. She joined us a few weeks ago and is ready to find her furever home.

Transporting our dogs round the Bay Area is important. We want them to be comfortable and not at all stressed.

Today at Santa Rosa, JJ unveiled the new BAGSR dog wagon. It's a people carrier with crates instead of seats. Air conditioning in the back. Jj and the team will make modifications to enable us to transport food and equipment as well.

We love Roxanne, Dave and the team at DogTrekker.  Their site provides guides to dog friendly things in our area.  They cover dog friendly beaches, hikes, events and all sorts of other stuff.

Most recently they prepared a guide to the best dog apps for your mobile devices. Go check them out and enjoy!  Click here.

The month of August has been keeping us very busy and it's not even over yet! In the first two weeks of the month, several dogs were adopted, and a few were monumental. First, Malherd was adopted on a Monday. TJ was adopted on a Thursday. Bergen, Thor and Taco were adopted on a Saturday. Mama Maya went pending, and on a Sunday, Gita and Darbie the Dobie were adopted. Whew!

Of course, the two HUGE adoptions were TJ and Bergen. We've posted TJ's story, but Bergen's is just as cool. Bergen is about 8 years old. He is also recovering from a very serious broken leg. His new owners wanted more of a low key dog, they were happy to help an old guy, and they didn't mind caring for him through the rest of his recovery. That is one special family to take Bergen.

We wish all the dogs a very happy furever. They all deserve the best, and we believe that's what they all got. Farewell Doggies!

Meet Sadie - this is a story of two rescue groups and a humane society working across almost 1,000 miles to save a dog.

What hope do you have when your owner dies and you are an elderly girl with severe medical issues?

Four days ago we received a call for help from the Auburn Valley Humane Society in Washington and Washington State German Shepherd Rescue.

Sadie has multiple severe health issues and little hope of being adopted. Yet she has the sweetest temperament. Miraculously, a family in San Francisco agreed to adopt Sadie for her final months. But how to do a home visit?

Karen, our head of adoptions, personally drove to San Francisco and met with the family for Washington GSR. The family was approved and now Sadie will have a private flight to San Francisco to meet up with her new family.

Huge thanks to the family in San Francisco, Karen, Washington GSR Rescue and the Humane Society who prove that when we all work together, anything is possible. Good luck Sadie!

Trainers2

Our dogs are super smart and learn very quickly with the right direction.  We are often asked to recommend a dog trainer by people who adopt their new dog.  Our belief is that trainer works with you to help you train your dog. Over the coming days and weeks we will be creating a list with contacts.  We will only list trainers that our members have personally worked with and recommend.

Based in Novato, they offer an extraordinary range of training and behavior classes at very affordable prices. Many of our volunteers have undertaken their dog training classes with their personal dogs.  We are huge fans of Dawn and her entire team. See them on line here and call them on (415) 883-4621

Lisa Caper runs DogOvation covering Marin County.  Several of our volunteers have worked with her and they give great reports.  Like all the best trainers her focus is more on training the owner to train the dog.  You can read all about Lisa's philosophy on her website here and phone her at : (415) 299-1158
