Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue

Ryker was born in our program and pat, one of our most wonderful foster parents cared for the whole litter and the Mom.  He was adopted last weekend at Maddies.  Way to go young man!

We saved 13 dogs at Maddies last weekend. Bailey found her furever home.  This 7 month old girl stole our hearts while she was with us.

Mendo, the cute 6 month old black and brown sweetheart, went to his furever home today.

He joins a wonderful family in the east bay, with a black lab brother and many horses.

First on his agenda are cuddles and love, second is training.

Good Luck Mendo! We love you.

His new name will be Maverick.

Margo, Chris, Theo, Chopper and I visit JJ Jacobson and met Frankie

Frankie came home with us with a long list of potential names that we tried one by one until she picked Maggie May. I bathed her when we got home so she would start fresh, smelling like us. She apparently likes water and I can’t wait to take her to the beach

Plans made for introducing Whisky, our 16# Maine Coon cat to Maggie May. Whisky had his own plans.  While Maggie May inspected the property with me always in eyesight, Whisky walked out, they touched noses and that was that.  So much for a slow and steady introduction….

We did not follow the 1-3-8 rule as we already had a party planned that evening

During the night she asked to go out to go potty—what a good girl. Maggie May makes friends easily and loves belly rubs and gives kisses as good as she gets.

Maggie May visits Dr. Stan and his crew. They LOVE her and she passed every conceivable test with flying colors

Chopper thinks Maggie May’s squeak toys are over the top and wishes she would tone it down. Chopper is no longer spending the day on our bed but comes to our home office with us and Maggie May.

Maggie May sticks to us like glue. It takes her a few minutes to find her spot on the bed for the 2nd night.  She has decided her head on the pillow between Lon and me.

Everyone played separately.  Maggie May likes to sit between my desk chair and the wall, sometimes with a toy sometimes not.  She prefers balls to Nylabones or fluffy toys.

In the evening Lon and I went to a graduation party followed by a fond farewell party.  Kids had in-out privileges.

Maggie May begins to explore on her own.

Shop for Maggie May at Pet Food Express per JJ.  Chopper and Maggie May chose their favorites.  We chose a Chuckit and a bunch of Chuckit balls per Bob.  I can throw further than the Chuckit—Margo used it and threw a ball into the neighbor’s yard.  My learning curve is downward. Chris said he’d teach me.  Maggie May plays until she’s tired and then lies down in the grass.

Another party for Maggie May.  Sonia made treats out of yams (she even cooked the yams herself rather than using canned yams) Cindy and Jeff brought organic treats (duck and also salmon) that Joey likes, Kathy brought champagne and PTC and Marnel brought people dessert.  Neighbors came over, too, for a quick drink before we sat down to dinner.

Maggie May charmed all!

The BEST day of all!!!! Chopper and Maggie May bonded!!!!

They explored the property TOGETHER.  They played chase, they ate dinner out of the same bowl at the same time (so much for separate food) they lie down touching each other. 6 water bowls and they drink out of the same one at the same time.  Chopper still thinks chasing a ball is dopey.

We think pets should eat pet food except Maggie May really loves apple slices that I give to her off my fork. She delicately takes each slice.

We had cleared our calendar for a quiet day with the kids (Carol and Keith brunch, Pearlman engagement party, BDT and Daniel SJCO bar-b-q)

Chopper and Maggie May sleep touching each other on our bed.

Both dogs think waiting in the car for a ride is a human motivator to take them someplace.  Amazing how smart they are—it worked!

We’ll have a quiet day. Maggie May prefers sitting by Chopper than between the wall and my desk chair. This is the first PoodooPosse without Matisse and I am feeling weepy.

Tonight PoodooPosse (Pat with Thor and her son, dil and teenage grandson, Sheila and Lance with Chief and Toby, Margo and Chris with Theo and us) for a Memorial Day picnic. Chopper and Maggie May had the best time ever!!!!

Maggie ran and ran and ran with Thor and Chopper slimed Toby’s ear—most everyone ate and drank to excess (except the DDs) and the dogs are all exhausted today.  Maggie May decided to sit on a dining room chair to share in the conversation was a good idea. Sheila asked Maggie May if that was really a good idea?—not!  Thank you to those and their families who gave everything so that we can play today.

Maggie May and Theo to the vet.  Theo hasn’t eaten since Thursday.  We know his tummy and digestive system are sensitive because of his time spent on the street.  Additionally, we worry because of Maui.

Maggie May has a couple puppy ailments—eyes sensitive to pollen and dust, a localized staph infection that by 2 years her skin will be able to fight (topical spray antibiotic, smells like alcohol) AND she’s tattooed, who knew?  It’s a bright green 3/8” line.  First one in the family with a tatt—wahoo for her.

One Week and Look at Us Now!

Yesterday, at our Santa rosa event, Mystic was adopted to Beth and Henry. Lucky her and lucky them! Three weeks ago she was facing a very difficult future in a shelter.
