Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue

We had 7 events in September - what an effort!

Two adoption days in Danville on the 2nd saturday and Novato on the 4th.  As we grow the North bay we also had 4 meet n greets across from Santa Rosa down to Mill Valley.  Finally there was the Pleasanton down town meet n greet.

We are already planning events in October. As normal we will be in Danville on the 12th and Novato on the 26th for our adoption events.  A few of us will be in our Tee shirts at the Bay Area Pet Fair in San Rafael next weekend.  We'll have a meet n greet in Marin at some point as well.

Because of the huge efforts of our volunteers our applications are up almost 50% versus last month and we saved 4 dogs in one weekend in September!

We hope to see you at one of our events-. You can see our schedule for October right here.

What fun we had on Saturday!

We started arriving at the Diablo Road Petfood Express at about 10:15am to set up. Xpens, dog bowls, chairs, tables, crates, banners, flyers, cards, donation boxes, camera gear, dogs, cookies and volunteers. By 10:45am (see picture) everyone was there, so we had a team meeting to introduce the dogs and cover safety procedures.

Rescue in the Bay Area is about German Shepherd adoptions, but it's also about meeting people and introducing the breed and answering their questions.  We feel like we are ambassadors for this wonderful animal.

Three hours later we had set up an adoption, met hundreds of people, are cookies and had fun with the dogs.  Some of us adjourned to the local eatery and others went their way.

We have an incredible team of people who give up their spare time to help these dogs.  Some of us have been to over 100 adoption events and they are still so rewarding.

We are now convinced that rescue is powered by cookies.  You can see this by the amazing amount that seem to turn up at every event.

Thanks to everyone who dropped by.   Novato now has an adoption event for German Shepherds.

Special thanks to the entire team at Petfood Express who were just awesome!  The staff at the store really do care about pets and kept coming out to see how we are doing.  So kind!

If you would like to meet German Shepherds, have fun and can give up about 4 hours a months, why not send us an email? The pay is not great, but the rewards are priceless!

Saturday 28th of September at 11am is an important moment for us.  We kick off a new monthly adoption event in Novato at the Diablo Road Petfood Express.

We will have plenty of dogs and volunteers.  Free cookies and lots of German Shepherd Dog Rescue talk. It will be great to see you.

German Shepherd Rescue in the Bay Area has missed out Marin over recent years.  We have had great support from Harrison and the team at Petfood Express in Novato.  We will be taking pictures of the event and posting them on our Facebook page.

Adoption events are important in German Shepherd Dog rescue because they are a great way for people to see the dogs and learn more about rescue.

If you can join us, please drop by. There will be lots of dogs and lots of fun!

Today we were in Santa Rosa.  The sun was out, we met hundreds of people and adopted dogs. Fun was had by all!  Best off was that Andres was adopted and goes to his furever home.

We set up at 10:45 and it never stopped.  Yesterday it hardly stopped raining.  Today there was a flow of people that never stopped and all of a sudden it was 1:30pm. We had previous adopters, volunteers and many people all coming to meet GSDs.

Cutest GSD of the day? Junebug of course :-)

Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue has events across the Bay Area.  We rescue German Shepherd dogs and then adopt them to their furever homes.

Getting up early it soon became obvious that today we were having our first real rain in ages and we were scheduled for a meet n greet in Mill Valley at 11am.

Rescuing German Shepherds in the Bay Area involves meeting dogs at shelters, fostering dogs, running a web site, going to people's homes to discuss adoptions, answering questions, Facebook pages, hotlines and adoption and meet n' greet events.

Today it rained and we got a bit wet.  The staff at Petfood Express were very kind.

A meet n greet normally happens outside at the front of the store in dry weather or under cover. We kept thinking it would get dry....  Even the cookies ended up in puddles of water.   We were sure that people took pity on us wet volunteers and donated in our lovely donations box.

The sun does not always shine on rescue - sure we got wet, but we had fun!

Trainers2

Our dogs are super smart and learn very quickly with the right direction.  We are often asked to recommend a dog trainer by people who adopt their new dog.  Our belief is that trainer works with you to help you train your dog. Over the coming days and weeks we will be creating a list with contacts.  We will only list trainers that our members have personally worked with and recommend.

Based in Novato, they offer an extraordinary range of training and behavior classes at very affordable prices. Many of our volunteers have undertaken their dog training classes with their personal dogs.  We are huge fans of Dawn and her entire team. See them on line here and call them on (415) 883-4621

Lisa Caper runs DogOvation covering Marin County.  Several of our volunteers have worked with her and they give great reports.  Like all the best trainers her focus is more on training the owner to train the dog.  You can read all about Lisa's philosophy on her website here and phone her at : (415) 299-1158
