Smokie: Was surrendered to us as an emergency  on 6/8 when his owner went homeless.  Per his history, Smokie was never socialized with other large dogs, though he did live with a small dog.  What we've seen in him reflects this completely.  He's leash reactive toward large dogs, though he shows nice behavior toward smaller dogs that tolerate him.  We have been able to introduce him successfully to a very tolerant helper type dog (female).  He very clearly demonstrated he lacks dog-communication skills and with the wrong dog, he will likely get himself in trouble.  Smoke is a very soft boy, craving human attention and he's been responsive to training.  However, he's not lasting well in our multi-dog environment. In his previous home, Smokie was a outdoor dog.

German Shepherd fans, your ears should be standing tall on alert! Smokie's ears are standing tall, and this German Shepherd mix is a lot of dog, more than 70 pounds. He's got the classic black and brown coat, those magnificent ears, and the sweeping tail, plus the Free Spirit intelligence and independence. Want to get more exercise? Smokie will keep you motivated to get outside and move. Run for miles? Sure. Chase a ball for hours? Check. Always ready to play at the end of the day? Guaranteed! Here's the deal: a big walk every day, and after his work is done, he'll curl up by your feet in the evenings. Meet satisfying Smokie at the East Bay SPCA. Pet number 37908.
