Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue

The weather has really warmed up in the Bay Area.  PLEASE don't leave your dog in a parked car.

Imagine how this vet would have felt if he'd been wearing a fur coat!

Please meet our newest little pup called G. I. Joe.

Alameda County Animal Control in Dublin called to ask if we'd be willing to help this little guy. After a visit to Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center & Urgent Care, Dr. Kristy Peterson determined an amputation would be the best course for successful recuperation. Dr. Larry Gilman will perform surgery, and as always, it went well.

He is now wearing only three legs due to severe breaks in his 'pelvic limbs'. We don't know what caused his injuries, but it's evident he suffered major trauma.

Dogs generally do very well on three legs, oftentimes even running two days after amputation surgery. It is simply amazing and inspiring to see how well they do.

G. I. Joe joins our 'Odin and Friends Club', along side Odin himself and TJ, our recent tri-pawd from LIvermore. The Odin Fund has been established to help deserving young dogs get the medical help they need to live a long healthy life, rather than to be euthanized because no one cares. "Joe's" surgery will cost approximately $3000, but we truly believe in Joe, his recovery and future. If you would like to help Joe and contribute to his future, please consider donating through Paypal on our website at

Odin, Joe and all of us at Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue thank you for all of your love and support for our Rescue dogs.

We will continue to update how Joe does in recovery.

Our dogs are super smart and learn very quickly with the right direction.  We are often asked to recommend a dog trainer by people who adopt their new dog.  Our belief is that trainer works with you to help you train your dog. Over the coming days and weeks we will be creating a list with contacts.  We will only list trainers that our members have personally worked with and recommend.

Based in Novato, they offer an extraordinary range of training and behavior classes at very affordable prices. Many of our volunteers have undertaken their dog training classes with their personal dogs.  We are huge fans of Dawn and her entire team. See them on line here and call them on (415) 883-4621

Lisa Caper runs DogOvation covering Marin County.  Several of our volunteers have worked with her and they give great reports.  Like all the best trainers her focus is more on training the owner to train the dog.  You can read all about Lisa's philosophy on her website here and phone her at : (415) 299-1158
