Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue

Last week we told you about a working girl called Spy. This week we can share a challenge that makes Spy seem easy.

A month ago we were approached by the Novato Police Department. One of their handlers had left and they had an 8 year old working K9 that needed to find a home.

Ingo is an East German import who was trained in Holland. He is an older dog that has worked all his life - he is not a family pet. This was a serious challenge!

We joined forces with our friends at GSRNC, specifically Linda Vartanian and set to work. Linda networked her contacts and we did the same. We visited the officers at Novato PD and interviewed them to get the complete story about the dog. We visited the dog in Novato, photographed him and checked him out.

From this Linda prepared a bio, with photos and we spread the word within the correct community.

Then, suddenly, we found two potential adopters. A lady called Stephanie from Redding came down, met with Ingo with us in Novato and she decided that this could work. She has had a whole series of working GSDs and specializes in retired K9s. the other adopted, a K9 handler, said she would wait to see if Stephanie would adopt.

Stephanie and her family spent the last few days build a home for Ingo and today she drove down and adopted Ingo!

Ingo has worked his whole life and two rescue groups combined to help save him. He is an amazing dog and deserves a wonderful retirement.

He’s going to get it!

Our dogs are super smart and learn very quickly with the right direction.  We are often asked to recommend a dog trainer by people who adopt their new dog.  Our belief is that trainer works with you to help you train your dog. Over the coming days and weeks we will be creating a list with contacts.  We will only list trainers that our members have personally worked with and recommend.

Based in Novato, they offer an extraordinary range of training and behavior classes at very affordable prices. Many of our volunteers have undertaken their dog training classes with their personal dogs.  We are huge fans of Dawn and her entire team. See them on line here and call them on (415) 883-4621

Lisa Caper runs DogOvation covering Marin County.  Several of our volunteers have worked with her and they give great reports.  Like all the best trainers her focus is more on training the owner to train the dog.  You can read all about Lisa's philosophy on her website here and phone her at : (415) 299-1158
