This is a courtesy post for ShepHeroes who has several GSDs available for adoption. Read more about Kayla, and their other dogs, on their website.

Kayla is a 7-8 month old dark sable female German Shepherd dog that had been picked up with her litter mate (Haley) and brought to the animal shelter by a concerned citizen.

Kayla is a very sweet pup, who loves to play with other dogs, and has adjusted well to being in foster care. She is crate trained (although not her favorite place to be), and appears to be housetrained, having had no accidents, as long as she is given sufficient potty breaks. While she is fairly easy to have around, she does need obedience training. Kayla loves to be with her humans, but is much more independent than her sister, and is not needy. Between the two, she has much more of an alpha temperament. She does tend to jump up to get attention, but is learning this is unacceptable behavior. Kayla will need an active family that can keep her well exercised and mentally stimulated.

While Kayla tested well with both males/females, we believe she would be most successful in a home with a male companion. She has not shown any interest in toys, but really enjoys playing chase with her male foster brother. She is going to make a great companion dog for whoever is lucky enough to adopt her.

Her interactions with cats, or other small critters has not as yet been tested, but we suspect they would not be a good match. Because of her enthusiasm, older children in the adoptive home would be best

It will be necessary for an adopter to have experience in raising a GSD, or other large breed dog. An adopter who can begin some basic obedience training based upon positive reinforcement is recommended to ensure Kayla remains on the path of a well-behaved canine citizen.
